Anyone who knows me would know that I’ll never be hardcore enough, or should I say, mad enough to go running in the rain – that’s if I knew it was going to rain. I’m a softie and a slacker. And to all the people who looked as I ran in the rain this morning, I’m not mad or hardcore. I simply got caught out.
That said, I’m surprised to admit I actually enjoyed running in the rain!
It wasn’t raining when I started. The skies were dark and I thought it was going to hold out. Though I had my rainjacket on when I started, I stopped at round about 5km to take it off as heat started building up inside. Bugger that not 10 minutes after I took it off, it started to drizzle. As I wasn’t feeling cold, I decided to just keep going anyway.
Soon after, it started to rain and I was starting to get drenched. I could feel my shirt stick to my body and wondered if it was time to stop and put the rainjacket back on. I thought I’ll keep going unless I started to feel cold, then I’ll stop to put on the rainjacket.
Throughout the run, I was cautious to monitor my body temperature. I didn’t want to suffer from hypothermia. I had no wallet, id, mobile or money. I could not afford to fall over by the side of the road, I had to make it back home even if it was raining.
The rain was quite refreshing at times but grew alittle bit cold when the gentle breeze came along. I really, really hate wet shoes and socks but what choice have I got? I avoided stepping into puddles of water in a bid to prevent my wet shoes from getting wetter (duh!). I was actually happily plodding along in the rain!
Not that I would go out and do it all over again if it was raining outside right now or if I ever knew it was going to rain. But I had enjoyed myself this morning. It never got so cold that I had to stop to put the jacket back on, though I was alittle worried that my headphones would give up when the rain got heavier.
Lucky enough, there was no lightning at all.
Arrived home 2.5 hours later, thoroughly soaked. It was heavenly to have a well-deserved hot shower straightaway and changed into some fresh, dry clothes. Then curl up next to the heater and tuck into some leftover pasta afterwards.
Life is beautiful. At times.
